Nintendo warns you that you must be prepared for server problems
When you open your Nintendo Switch this Christmas, you can expect Nintendo server problems, it seems. One of the plagues of all that is online is that a new console is no longer a plug-and-play nowadays. You must now configure accounts and download new updates. The problem is when thousands or millions of people try to do it simultaneously. Sometimes it just does not work.
A tweet on the Japanese customer service accounts reads as follows:
This weekend, access will be focused on the Nintendo account server, and it is expected that the Nintendo account is not created immediately. If you plan to use the Nintendo Switch family for the first time, we recommend creating it in advance.
I will not lie; Nintendo server problems are for me the least surprising thing in the world during the holidays. I would be much more shocked if they did not have server problems. Even Sony and Microsoft, who set up a much better online system, will probably undergo at least one failure.
For the moment, Nintendo only talks about creating account. They advise you to create an account before the weekend where most will open their new Switch. Although it would be fine, I'm sure many parents have virtually no idea how to do that.
Nintendo may be cautioned against account problems, but I would not be surprised that other problems arise. Downloads can be slower than usual, and popular online games, such as Platoon 2, Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. Ultimate, will also probably have server problems if you are trying to play there.
It fears that it is something with which we just have to live when the holidays are approaching. The online connection offers many advantages, so we have to take the negative points with them.
